7 of the most beautiful car holidays in France

Normandy

Of all car holidays in France, Normandy is the route with the most variety of landscapes and places to visit. A delightful destination for which Nomads has mapped out a 957 km car route. We start in the seaside village of Dieppe and take you along the white chalk cliffs of the Côte d'Albâtre to charming Honfleur and Deauville. Along the way, you'll drive past the D-Day invasion beaches, and Mont Saint-Michel is not missing either. On our way back, we go inland, because hilly Normandy has more to offer than just the coast.

Provence

I guess you can picture it. A sunny, mountainous landscape that alternates with vineyards and vast lavender fields. A car holiday through Provence is a visual treat with spectacular panoramas. The route takes you along authentic villages and cosy towns in a beautiful backdrop of hills. The 668 km car journey starts in hidden Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and takes you to sunny Vaucluse. Passing orchards, olive fields and truffle plantations, we continue our journey and let ourselves be led to the wild horses of the Camargue. Then we explore the famous vineyards of the Côtes-du-Rhône and climb the giant of Provence: Mont Ventoux.

French Pyrenees

The Pyrenees are the natural border between France and Spain, stretching from the Bay of Biscay to the Mediterranean Sea. Nomads planned a car holiday covering all the beauty of the Pyrenees. In roughly 14 days, you will enjoy beaches, mountains, rivers, lakes, natural parks and numerous lovely towns. Be guided through the whimsical roads and be amazed by the great variety of sights. The 696 km car route starts in Biarritz and takes you all the way to Barcarès on the Mediterranean.

Aude

At the foot of the Pyrenees, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, lies the department of Aude. A sunny region that is perfect for a car holiday in France. The region is known for its delicious wine, beautiful nature and Cathar history. This destination offers the ideal combination of cultural excursions and long walks through mountainous nature. Our route starts in Narbonne on the Mediterranean coast and via winding roads and picturesque vineyards we head inland. We then set off via the Pyrenees to Cathar countryside, where fortresses and castles await us.

Côte d’Azur

Each year, many Belgians and Dutchmen head to the Côte d'Azur by car. A popular destination for many reasons. This holiday location offers the perfect mix of sun, sea, and culture. Do you prefer to stay away from the crowds? Plan your trip to France in spring or autumn. During these periods, it is quiet, and you can let yourself be enchanted by the azure coast, the small villages and the big seaside towns of the French Riviera without stress.

Alsace and Vosges

With its culture and gastronomy, Alsace knows how to charm everyone. This versatile destination in the north-east of France stretches along the Rhine. The 357 km car route takes you past wine hills and vineyards and offers several opportunities to taste the delicious Alsatian wines. Each of these are locations with the mountain peaks of the Vosges Mountains as a backdrop. We then follow the Route des Crêtes, which takes us past mountain villages and picturesque towns to the highest peaks of the Vosges Mountains.

Champagne region

Anyone who says the Champagne region immediately thinks of the prestigious elixir sipped by French kings. The bubbles conquered restaurants all over the world and sparkled at numerous parties. But there is more to experience in this region. On this car holiday in eastern France, we drive past vast forests and beautiful waters such as the Meuse and Lac du Der. We also make time to visit the mighty cities of Reims and Troyes.
